Herdshare
Our most preferred method. On farm harvests are stress free (for the livestock) and done in the most humane and respectful way possible. The results are an excellent product that can be custom cut and packaged for the individual buyer at a discounted rate. We offer on farm harvests for lamb, goat and occasionally beef.
Lamb
AJHC specializes in Finnsheep Landrace a popular mixed-use breed from Finland. The meat is delicate, sweet, and leaner than other breeds making it less "gamey" than the more common meat breeds such as New Zealand or Dorset. All of our sheep are fed certified organic non-GMO feed when needed and are pasture-raised all season. We have converted many folks who thought they didn't like lamb meat and are popular with chefs and foodies alike. Our lamb harvest takes place in the fall and early winter and we offer both individual cuts as well as 1/2 lamb and whole lamb herd shares for custom orders
Goat
Like our Finns, our Kinder goats are raised on only certified organic feed, pasture, and hay. We only offer our goat as herd shares ie: half or whole goat custom cut and packaged via an on-farm harvest because we feel it is the most humane and stress-free for them.
Produce
Like everything else we only use organic and sustainable practices in our gardens. We offer certified organic fruits with the VOF we offer a variety of apples and berries seasonally. Depending on the season we offer a variety of our favorite vegetables as well as new crops we are impressed with.
Pantry Items
Having been canning for over 25 years we offer a variety of relishes, jellies, sauces, and butter all from produce grown on a farm and using certified organic ingredients for the few items we don't (such as cane sugar). Most items come in 8, 9, or 16-ounce glass jars. Only the ripest fruit is used in our jellies, jams, and butter allowing us to add sugar to taste resulting in a product where the staring role is the fruit itself and with a 1/4 of the sugar found in conventional products.
Maple Syrup
Single-sourced and wood-fired from our VOF-certified organic sugarbush we offer both Amber rich and Dark robust (fancy and dark) in a variety of sizes and in both plastic and glass containers.
Fiber Products
Finnsheep are fiber sheep and are known for their soft wool similar to merino. We offer yarn, roving, raw fleece, and hides from our harvests. Nothing is ever wasted. Our yarn is spun at Junction Fiber Mill and comes in 3 natural colors, Some of it is then hand-dyed by Susan with either conventional dyes or, new this year, our natural dyed skeins using plants and materials grown on our farm. Both Bulky Aran and DK weights are available in 2 & 4-ounce skeins. All of our skeins carry a label naming the sheep who produced the wool. Custom orders are welcome. In addition, all hides from any harvest are tanned using a chemical-free process from Driftless Tannery and are not only soft and lush but also safe enough for a new born baby. We offer both roving and raw fleece for spinners and fiber artists.
